Minneapolis is the "Most Athletic City" in U.S.
Says who? The February 2006 issue of Men’s Fitness
magazine cited Minneapolis as most athletic due to the country’s
highest level of participation in a variety of sports.
Since Minneapolis has 4 full seasons, residents and visitors can enjoy
many different activities ranging from snowshoeing to canoeing. Per capita,
Minneapolis is home to the most recreational swimmers and golfers than any
city in the country!
Mayor
Rybak |
The same issue of Men’s Fitness named Minneapolis’ Mayor
R.T. Rybak one of The Fittest Mayors in America. Mayor Rybak’s commitment
to fitness is evident in his regular outdoor activities (skiing, running
and biking), participation in 2 local triathlons and successfully passing
a citywide smoking ban in bars and restaurants. Currently, he’s training
for the 35-kilometer City of Lakes Loppet Ski Race in early February.
And
there’s
more. Men's Health says Minneapolis is the 10th best city for men
to live.
Minneapolis
earned
an A+ in health,
B+ in quality of life and a B in fitness, for an A overall. The magazine also
cited Minneapolis as the city for the healthiest hearts.
Plus, a December report from
the United Health Foundation named Minnesota the nation’s healthiest
state for 2005 – a third
year at the top of the list.
